About the Event
Please join us at CMHC's Teen Winter Mindful Hiking Sessions. Due to overwhelming positive feedback from the summer session and due to popular demand, we are offering a teen winter session. These winter hiking sessions seek to help participants build community, learn stress reduction techniques, and create resources for strength in challenging times. The 6-week sessions are open to teens (13-17 year old) occurring Monday's November 2- December 7 from 4-5 PM. Sessions will meet at various Baltimore county trails within 15 mintues of the greater Towson/Hunt Valley area. The charge is $100/entire seris. Limited scholarships availabe upon request. The sessions will be co-led by Katja Engel-Hughes, mental health graduate student and Phillip McKnight, mindulness instructor. We are making safety a priority and will be observing 6-foot physical distancing. We look forward to you joining us in these positive, life affirming experiences!
Session 1 - Meet at Merryman Trail 10517 Pot Spring Rd, Cockeysville, MD 21030
Session Theme/ Objectives - Introduction to mindfulness, using our senses to be present in nature, setting intentions
Session 2 - Meet at Merryman Trail
Session Theme/ Objectives -Mindfulness of thoughts. We will learn to create a wise relationship with our thoughts so that they work for us and not against us.
Session 3 Meet at Merryman Trail
Objectives :Mindfulness of emotions. We will learn to recognize and befriend emotions through the "RAIN" practice.
Session 4 - Meet at church parking lot where we will walk to hiking trails once group has assembled. 1400 Dulaney Valley Rd, Lutherville-Timonium, MD 21093
Theme/ Objectives : Mindfulness and Nature. We will learn to let nature be our guide to the present moment through attention to our senses.
Session 5- Meet at 1400 Dulaney Valley Rd, Lutherville-Timonium, MD 2109
Objectives: Compassion for ourselves and others. We will learn the practice of working skillfully with our own and others challenges, increasing a sense of connection, empathy, and care.
Session 6 Meet at 1400 Dulaney Valley Rd, Lutherville-Timonium, MD 21093
Theme/ Objectives : Gladdening the mind and seeing the good in life. We will learn how to shift our attention to what uplifts us using scientifically proven strategies for well being.
