MI is a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.

Michael Hunter has been practicing in the field of Addictions since 1998, has been utilizing Motivational Interviewing as a strategy for working with clients during that time. He went through the Training of New Trainers course with MINT in 2008 and was a member of MINT for about ten years and has trained around 3,000 or so individuals on how to use Motivational Interviewing in a variety of settings.  He is the CEO for Sandstone Care, a behavioral health organization specializing in care for young adults and adolescents with locations in Colorado, Maryland and Virginia. With thirteen service locations in those regions.
