Feldenkrais

“Nothing is permanent about our behaviors except the belief that they are so.”

-Moshe Feldenkrais

What is Feldenkrais?

The Feldenkrais Method is a gentle, movement-based approach to improving physical and mental functioning. It uses mindful movement and focused attention to help people: Move with less pain Increase flexibility and balance Improve posture and coordination Calm the nervous system Developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, the method is based on the idea that movement and awareness can rewire the brain and body. It’s commonly used for chronic pain, injury recovery, neurological conditions, performance enhancement (for athletes, dancers, musicians), and stress reduction. Now offering ONE ON ONE sessions Functional Integration Fedenkrais is a hands-on approach with a practitioner. A person who is challenged by pain, discomfort, recovery from injury, neurological, or developmental delays may benefit from one-on-one interaction. The practitioner’s gentle, respectful hands can help the student to discover habitual patterns, recognize possibilities for reducing tension, and ways that ease might transfer to functions in life.

Meet Shelly Slyker

As a former early childhood teacher and mom of two, I’ve spent years exploring how children—especially those who are neurodiverse—grow and thrive. This path led me to the Feldenkrais Method, a gentle, neuroscience-based practice that calms the nervous system and releases patterns of tension.

I completed the 4-year Baltimore Feldenkrais Training in 2021 and am now a certified Havening Practitioner. My work emphasizes slow, mindful movement and curiosity, helping clients let go of unhelpful habits and move with greater comfort and ease.

I focus on small, slow movements of the hands paired with awareness. To release tension and foster ease, I emphasize process over product—encouraging a sense of curiosity and a “conversation with the skeleton” that’s always evolving. This functional, body-based learning supports lasting change by helping the body relearn more natural, comfortable patterns.

Initial sessions (90 min) are $150; follow-ups (60 min) are $110. If you're ready to explore more easeful, functional movement, I’d love to connect
