Sean Newhart



Sean Newhart is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor and received his doctoral degree in Counselor Education from the College of William & Mary and his master’s degree in Counselor Education (Clinical Mental Health Counseling) from Clemson University. Sean has worked across a variety of contexts, including batterers intervention, partial hospitalization, university counseling centers, and a clinic for couples and families. Sean believes the establishment of a strong therapeutic relationship is paramount to effective psychotherapy and integrates a range of interventions based on his clients and their presenting difficulties.



The clients I work with come from a variety of identities, experiences, and communities that contribute to their unique personhood. They often present to counseling after encountering a difficult transition or barrier that has impacted their overall functioning. Their needs are often personal and relational, leading to goals that are focused on personal wellness as well as enhancing their connections with others. I work with my clients to gain a thorough understanding of their experience and their needs, and collaboratively develop goals that address these needs.

I offer a variety of therapeutic modalities to suit my clients' needs, including individual, couple, and family therapy. I integrate a range of therapeutic approaches that are specifically and intentionally catered to my clients' needs, including person-centered, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment, and existential therapies.
