Katja Engel-Hughes

With over two decades of relational, professional and interpersonal experience in health care with a concentration in the pharmaceutical and medical device industry, Katja has grown to appreciate the importance of working in partnership with doctors and patients and families for quality care. Katja’s love of learning and serving her fellow community have passionately inspired her in successfully completing her Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling as well as consequent state board licensing requirements. Katja offers clients specialized services in her private practice in Towson, MD as part of the team at Chesapeake Mental Health Cooperative.

Katja draws on fundamental psychotherapy and counseling approaches that facilitate insight, compassion, and understanding into one’s own thoughts and experiences.
She believes providing clients with a safe, empathetic, caring, and trusting environment is crucial in helping clients develop personal growth, self-awareness, acceptance, and self-compassion in order to overcome life challenges and provide clients with therapeutic tools to achieve greater peace within themselves. Through the techniques of acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, anxiety nature based and mindfulness therapy, Katja aspires to support clients to develop and work toward achieving personal goals, as well as providing clients with tools to become more aware of the connections between the body and mind.
