Katja Engel-Hughes is a graduate student of clinical mental health counseling at Liberty University. She has earned a B.S. degree in Business and Hospitality and Tourism Management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. After having worked for more than ten years as a Pharmaceutical and Medical Sales Representative for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, Katja took time off to raise her children before pursuing her Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling at Liberty University. Her anticipated graduation date is December 2020.
Katja draws on fundamental psychotherapy and counseling approaches that facilitate insight, compassion, and understanding into one’s own thoughts and experiences. Katja believes providing clients with a safe and trusting environment is crucial in helping clients develop personal growth, self-awareness, acceptance, and self-compassion in order to overcome life challenges and provide clients with therapeutic tools to achieve greater peace within themselves. Understanding each client has their own unique needs and goals, Katja provides a personalized holistic counseling approach to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Through the techniques of acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness therapy, Katja aspires to support clients to develop and work toward achieving personal goals, as well as providing clients with tools to become more aware of the connections between the body and mind.
