Background
Catherine Kioi is a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC). She earned her Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University in Baltimore, Md. She enjoys working with children, teens and young adults who struggle with behavior problems, anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-esteem, stress and relationship problems.
Clinical Approach
Cathy begins therapy using a Person-Centered approach whereby she accepts individuals as they are without judgement, and helps them work on getting to where they need to be. She uses Behavior Therapy to assist individuals to curb their negative behaviors, and develop more positive communication skills. She also uses a Cognitive Behavioral approach to therapy where she teaches individuals to monitor their negative thoughts, so as to be able to adjust their thinking and in turn be able to develop more positive thoughts, feelings and actions. Cathy is a trained Brainspotting therapist and uses Brainspotting to help clients process trauma, anxiety, depression and areas of their life where they feel stuck. Cathy knows that life stressors are inevitable, so she does her best to equip individuals with the tools they need to handle any future challenges that they come across after they leave therapy. The goal is to assist individuals to achieve peace of mind, which leads to a happier and calmer life.
